In vineyard Cuvée 1564 Brut Nature is made from an equal blend of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, with 10% Erbamat. The Erbamat grapes are grown near the winery and in the highest part of the estate, on terraced vineyards facing west and trained using the Guyot system. The 2017 harvest was marked by the historic frost between April 18 and 19, when minimum temperatures dropped to -2/-3°C around 6 AM. In the following months of May and June, maximum temperatures were significantly higher, with cooler minimums, characterized by strong temperature variations. In the vineyards spared from the frost, the vintage turned out to be exceptional: a limited production with high quality.
In cellar The manual harvest of the Chardonnay took place in early August 2017, followed by the Pinot Noir at the end of August, and the (limited quantity of) Erbamat in September. After the harvest, the grapes were gently pressed. Each vineyard plot was vinified separately, with fermentation and subsequent aging in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks, to prevent malolactic fermentation. The free-run juice from the Chardonnay and a portion of the Erbamat underwent fermentation and aging for 7 months in barriques. The Pinot Noir, on the other hand, was vinified as a white wine and aged in stainless steel tanks.
Plus Castello Bonomi has been studying, experimenting with, and observing the Erbamat grape since 2010, when it decided to join the Franciacorta Consortium’s project focused on the recovery and enhancement of this ancient native variety. With the 2014 and 2015 harvests, the first Cuvée 1564 was produced, consisting of 30% Chardonnay, 30% Pinot Noir, and 40% Erbamat. Starting from the 2017 harvest, Castello Bonomi’s Dosaggio Zero evolved to more authentically express the grape varieties used, thus becoming Cuvée 1564 Franciacorta Brut Nature.

Other curiosities

Straw yellow with greenish reflections. On the nose, it reveals delicate floral sensations followed by citrus and mineral notes. The finesse is highlighted without sacrificing the structure, which is present but not overpowering. On the palate, the acidity is striking, and the great balance makes for an elegant Franciacorta with a dry finish.
